How About Some Actual History Trivia Facts About The Month Of February
I’m sure you may have stumbled upon this quiz thinking it would be full of February trivia. I certainly do not want to disappoint so here’s a few paragraphs to enjoy about the month itself.
As you well know already, February is famous for being the shortest month of the year, even when adding on that extra day every four years. At 28 days, I’m glad this month is in the winter.
The name for February comes from the Latin word februa which means “purification.” Romans would spend the entire month holding a festival to achieve just that.
Believe it or not, February wasn’t always the second month of the year. Actually, along with January, it was one of the last months to be added to the calendar.
Bill Murray and February
No, his birthday isn’t in this month, but he did star in the movie Groundhog Day, which is a kind of dark comedy set in the month of Feb. specifically Groundhog Day…obviously. This peculiar holiday falls on the 2nd of the month and entails Punxsutawney Phil checking for his shadow. If there is one, it means 6 more weeks of winter. No shadow means an early spring. It’s not often people wish for a cloudy day in February.
