My New Trivia Book Is Out!

Hi trivia fans! Here’s some good news…I’ve got a NEW TRIVIA BOOK on Amazon!  It’s called Jimmy Loram’s Best Trivia Book Ever: Over 1001 High Quality Questions, Answers, Games, Puzzles & Quizzes.  Yes, it’s a trivia ebook for Kindle or any e-reader, which means you can download it and start quizzing immediately!

These questions and quizzes all come from actual used-in-real-life game nights that I personally hosted all around the Los Angeles and Orange County area.  What makes this book and these questions even better is the fact that I could reread them, ascertain if there were issues or questions from the trivia teams and players, and decide if it needed to be rewritten. So, these questions are really honed down to be the best that they can be!  This is why I would say this definitely the best trivia book I’ve ever written…hence the title.

Now, YOU get to use them however you’d like! You can read the book for yourself or quiz your friends and family. Also, if you happen to be an actual trivia host who writes their own questions, I just saved you months of writing!  Just pick and choose the questions you find the best or simply use each round as it is–they are pretty much perfect and ready to rock!

BTW, here’s a sample of what’s inside regarding my Picture Trivia Rounds!

Here’s chapter 1, so you can see exactly how these awesome game books work.

Keep Using Your Brain!

Hello and welcome to the OC Trivia Live! Game Book: Fun Easy Trivia Set 1!  Trivia Live, you ask?  What does that mean? Are you, James, showing up at my house to host a game? Are you going to call shotgun and come along in the car while quizzing my family on our road trip? You climbing into bed to whisper questions in my ear?  Yes, I am!  Kind of.  But not that last one.  I think that’s a felony.

What you are listening to or reading is a very fun group of trivia games that you can play as you read or listen.  The game works great as an ebook but even better as an audiobook. You will listen to me as I read the questions to you and your friends and family.  Or if you’re using the ebook as your guide, you would have someone else read the questions–someone who probably doesn’t have the golden buttery vocal styles that I possess, but it will hopefully be passable.  If you’ve ever played team trivia or pub trivia, this book is for you. And if you just love trivia, you will have a blast playing OC Trivia Live! by yourself.  But if you have some friends, invite them over to play.  Just don’t cheat and memorize the answers before they show up!

How This Book Is Laid Out

There are 5 complete games of 4 rounds, a total of 20 rounds of trivia.  Why not 8, 10, or 20 games?  Because the longer the book, the more expensive it is.  I don’t want you to mortgage your house to see if you like playing audiobook trivia games!  Round 1 is General Knowledge.  Round 2 is Sports or History. Round 3 is Music, Entertainment, or Wildcard.  And the final round, Round 4, is back to General Knowledge. Let’s break down each round.

General Knowledge: These are questions from all over the trivia spectrum.  No category is off-limits.  There may even be riddles–and bad jokes.  If you haven’t figured that much out yet.

Sports or History: Not just based in sports and historical facts, you’ll be given a subcategory for this round.  For instance, it might be Sports Rules or All Time Sports Records.  This little subcategory clue will hopefully give you a chance to get your mind right (what little of it you might have remaining, that is).  The same goes with this round when it’s History.

Music, Entertainment, or Wildcard: These categories will also have a subcategory clue. The Music Round might be Name The Song or Name The Artist or even Finish The Song Lyric.  Entertainment could be Famous Women With Male First Names or Oscar Winning Movies.  Wildcard could be anything unusual, such as All About Antarctica or April Fools Day Quiz.  If there’s something unusual about the round, I will be sure to explain it to you. Don’t freak out.  I got your back.

How To Play

First things first, NO FAIR USING SMARTPHONES!  Sorry, but all phones should be put away for the duration of the game (or at least during each round).  If you must tweet, post to Facebook, instagram,or swipe right (or left), do so in between rounds.  Again, no looking up answers on your phone.  That’s not called a trivia game, that’s called “research.”

Now, there are several ways to use this book.  The easiest and most mundane (read lame) is to simply read through or listen to the book in real time and then look at or listen to the answers.  Yawn.  Boring.  The best way to use this book is to play.  Play the game.  Here’s how:

With each chapter, what you will hear is ten trivia questions, each one followed by an 8 to 10 second pause.  Please feel free to pause the audio for longer if you want!  8 to 10 seconds is not enough time to have fun with figuring out the answer, but, again, I didn’t want the audiobook version to be 18 hours long!  The shorter the book, the cheaper it is.  Feel free to send your cha ching savings via great reviews for me on Audible!  If you’re reading this as an ebook, you can take as much time as you’d like to figure out the answer before your question reader asks the next trivia question.  You will get quizzed on 10 questions, then you will listen to the next chapter, which will give you the answers.  Tally up your scores (10 points for each correct answer) and move on to round 2! I recommend not to count spelling, and do not subtract points for wrong answers.  A correct answer spelled wrong is still 10 points.  A wrong answer spelled right (or wrong) is 0 points.  If you ask me, the less mathematical symbols used, the better!

Playing As Teams: Gather together in groups, come up with a team name, then read the questions aloud or listen as I run the game for you.  This is how pub trivia or team trivia works. You can use normal sized post-its for answer sheets.  Write down your team name, the round number (1 through 4) and number the answer sheets 1 to 10 for each question.  You’ll need 4 post-it’s per team.  I think you can afford that.

As each question is read aloud, give yourselves about 30 seconds to come up with an answer and write it down (Legibly please. A scribble that could be Detroit or Des Moines is cheating.  Cute, but still cheating).  At the end of the 10 questions, the answers for all of the questions will be given in the following chapter.  Give each team 10 points per correct answer and move on to round 2!  At the end of the game, add up the score from each round and the team with the highest point total wins.

Playing As Individuals:  If there’s a group of you, say 3 to 6, possibly in a car for a long road trip or a daily commute (sorry driver, you need to focus on the road), you can play each other in a similar way as Teams play.  Problem is, you only have one brain per team.  You can also play “Front Seat vs. Back Seat” teams, too. Just ask the driver to avoid potholes as you ride along as we need to be able to read the answers.

Also, you can play this trivia game as a single team if you are stuck in a car together.  This is one of the most popular ways to play!  Once you hear the question, you can pause the audio, then discuss what the answer is.  This way the driver can participate.  Have your notetaker write down the answer you’ve decided on as a group.  Man, you’re going to have a blast arguing over which Golden Girl was the oldest in real life!  At the end of the round, check your answers, and tally up your scores. And whoever influenced all of you to choose the most wrong answers will have to get out of the car and walk the rest of the way.  That right there would be some serious trivia!

Flying Solo:  If you’re alone, I recommend challenging yourself to figure out the answer as you read or listen to each question. You can write them down, or as a last resort, just keep a tally in your head.  Doing this will make you incredibly intelligent because you’ll be utilizing a lot of grey matter trying to juggle the questions, the answers to those questions, the total per round, and the total score.  You’re welcome, brainiac.

Super Short Games:  If you only have 10 minutes, or you don’t want to spend the 20 to 30 minutes it takes to play all four rounds (remember there’s 5 separate complete games of 4 rounds each here!), you can simply play one round (any round) and see who wins.  Maybe you just like Sports Trivia.  Fine, play only those.  Just know I put my heart and soul into each question of each round, so you would kind of hurt my feelings if you did that. It took me many long hours to plagiarize these questions off of the internet for you.

Also, you might even figure out some new way to use this book to play.  If so, drop me a line at www.octrivia.com and I’d be happy to plagiarize your idea, too, and put it in a future OC Trivia Live! Game Book.

Special Features

Finally, there are some special twists I’ve come up with to make the game more exciting.

Multiple Choice: Okay, I didn’t invent multiple choice.  Some kind soul in the grade school testing world came up with this one.  But if a question is leaning to the difficult end of the spectrum, I decided to add multiple choice answers for you to choose from.  If you’d rather not use them, I will pause before giving you these multiple choice answers.  Smarty pants.  Again, you’re welcome.

Bonus 10: This is a harder question added on to the end of a normal question.  For instance: Question 1: What is the capital of Idaho?  Bonus 10: What year did Idaho become a state? If you got Boise, you get 10 points. If you get 1890, the year Idaho became a state, you get 10 more points!  Get it?

20 Point Questions: These are different from Bonus 10 questions because it’s one trivia question with two answers, such as, what are the two largest US states based on area? So you would write down or name those two states.  Which you know are…Alaska and Texas.  There may even be some 30 point questions so be prepared.  I’m not sure how you prepare for that, but I’m just being thorough, okay?

Throwback Questions:  Sometimes I’ll ask you a trivia question that has the same answer from a previous trivia question in the current game you’re playing.  So, an earlier question might be, “What color cat is unlucky if it crosses your path?” Then later in the game, during another round, I would ask you, “Which Pearl Jam song starts with the lyrics, ‘Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay’?”  Both of these answers is of course, Black.

That’s it.  That’s how you use this fun and engaging ebook or audiobook.  To get your copy, visit this link: OC Trivia e-books for the ebook and this link: OC Trivia LIVE Game Books for the Audible version.
